Our team based in Bahrain has been appointed as architectural designers and engineering consultants for Nomas Towers in Juffair, Bahrain.
The US $800 million development will occupy over 35,000m2, and will contain a four-tower project mixed use development.
Sustainable design will be a key component in the project, with a design team led by green architecture expert Nicholas Bailey.
“We are looking at featuring environmentally attuned attributes such as self-shading vertical fins on the towers’ facades,” he says. “The orientation of the building maximises the panoramic views alongside minimising solar heat gain, and the majority of apartments are duplex units which include double-height spaces and double frontages for natural cross ventilation during the cooler months."
Bailey further emphasises the importance of the development saying "Nomas Towers is a hugely significant project for Bahrain, as a mixed-use hub where people can live,
work and spend leisure time, and as a catalyst for public life at the Juffair waterfront. Carbon critical design is at the centre of everything Atkins does. Nomas Towers is firmly focused on social and environmental sustainability, both in its leisure, entertainment and retail mix, its amenity space and quality of life, and its energy and water conservation measures."
On signing the agreement, Sheikh Rashid Bin Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Khalifa said, “Atkins is our partner of choice as they have the knowledge and expertise on a local, regional and international level, which is vital to a project of this magnitude. Our aim is to have on offer, a development which is innovative, sophisticated, inspirational and engaging and this is exactly what Atkins is famous for worldwide. Their style is unique, inspirational yet sophisticated. I am sure this partnership will yield great results.”
The property will be a premium site with an expansive waterfront and has an expected completion date around 2011.
